Rural households awareness and preceptions to variability in climatic conditions in rural South Africa

A critical element to climate vulnerability in rural South Africa is the the issue of awareness and adaptation strategies. Rural households and smallholder farmers in Eastern Cape will be more vulnerable to climate change due to predominance of rain fed agriculture, wide ignorance of the phenomenon, low adoption rate of adaptation measures and because of the low adaptive capacity. Understanding climate variability is key to the reduction of human foot print and communal farming production. This study evaluates climate change awareness and perceptions of climate variability among the Eastern Cape communal farmers.
