Zusammenfassung:University students experience poor health conditions and psychological wellbeing because of insufficient physical activity participation. This study aimed to review the existing literature on the application of underwater resistance training in university students. We conducted a systematic review to report the use of underwater resistance training in university students by identifying articles through a search on PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, CINAHL, and the Cochrane library using search items representing “underwater” and “resistance” and “university students.” Quantitative experimental studies with university students, in which one of the interventions was underwater resistance training, were included. The literature search yielded 288 articles of which 4 met the inclusion criteria. Collectively, the studies involved 64 participants, including healthy university students and college athletes. Studies included different underwater resistance training forms. Each training session was 14 to 15minutes and lasted between 2 days and 8 weeks. After different periods of underwater resistance training, the participants showed more improvement in balance, flexibility, and aerobic power. No study examined the effects of underwater resistance training on sleep quality, quality of life, or mental health in university students. The review indicates that underwater resistance training improves physical function in university students. The results could be used in future studies to design an exercise intervention involving underwater resistance training for improving physical fitness among university students.
