Zusammenfassung:Russia's geographical position is closely linked to its geopolitics, and geographical assumptions are historical determinants in the development of both society and territory. Specific assumptions are mainly the natural conditions, which applied to the location of the economy, but which also affected its mutual relations with other states. The role of natural determinism as well as Russia's position as a power controlling a crucial part of the Eurasian continent is discussed in many studies. The presented study nanalyzed the importance of primary energy sources in the interdependence of the links between Russia and the European Union; with an emphasis on the energy factor in the influence it exerts on policy, as well as the interdependence of both entities. This questions were examined by analyzing the current situation of the unchanging territorial structure of the Russian export and European import flows of fossil fuels. The current transport structure of Russian fuel and trade flows of primary energy resources from Russia to the European Union were also analyzed. The synthesis of the acquired knowledge shows the necessity for the further development of mutual relations. It also showed the need for diversification of energy of both geographical segments which were examined.
