Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dr. h.c. mult. Klaus Friedrich

An obituary for professor Klaus Friedrich, who died in May 2021, is presented. For decades, Friedrich had been an inspiring, valued and trusted colleague of the international composites community. He launched his academic career in 1984 at the Hamburg University of Technology, Germany to become the first German professor on composite materials. In Aug 1990, he became Research Director for Materials Science at the then newly founded lnstitut für Verbundwerk-stoffe (IVW) at the University of Kaiserslautern, today known as the Leibnitz Institute for Composite Materials.
