Zusammenfassung:Thyrotoxicosis is a general term used to describe the excessive thyroid hormone in blood or tissues, caused by different factors. In this study, it was aimed to immunohistochemically examine the hem oxygenase-1 (HO-1) distribution in the uterus tissue of experimental thyrotoxicosis-induced rats receiving spirulina. In the study, 30 adult Wistar Albino female rats weighing 240-340 gr, were used. They were divided into five groups (including six rats in each group). In the control group no application was performed. In the sham group, 0.0025 M NaOH and physiological saline solution were intraperitoneally administered for ten days. In the spirulina group, 400 mg/kg/day spirulina was applied via oral gavage for ten days. In the Thyrotoxicosis group, 3, 3' 5-Trii-odo-L-thyronine prepared with 0.0025 M NaOH as 250 μgr/kg/day was administered intraperitoneally for ten days. In the thyrotoxicosis+spirulina group, 3, 3'; 5-Triiodo-L-thyronine prepared with 0.0025 M NaOH as 250 μgr/kg/day was administered intraperitoneally for ten days and 400 mg/kg/day spirulina was administered via oral gavage for ten days. In order to examine the uterus tissue, Crossman's triple staining was performed. The immunohistochemical localization of the HO-1 in the uterus tissue was identified using the streptavidin-biotin peroxidase method. In addition, the live weights, TSH, T3 and T4 values were discussed between the groups and comparisons were made. It was determined that the HO-1 immunoreactivity was higher in the lamina propria in the uterus tissue of the experimental groups than the control and sham groups. It was determined that the HO-1 immunoreactivity was higher in the lamina propria in the uterus tissue of the spir-ulina group than the control and sham groups. In the study, there was a significant decrease in the live weights of the thyrotoxicosis and thyrotoxico-sis+spirulina experimental groups. It was seen that the increase in the serum T3, T4 values of the thyrotoxicosis+spirulina experimental group was lower than the increase in the serum T3, T4 values of the thyrotoxicosis experimental group. Consequently, it was determined that the spirulina increased the HO-1 release in the uterus tissue of experimental thyro-toxicosis-induced rats.
