Zusammenfassung:Aluminium-composite bi-tubular cylindrical structures could be significantly utilized as energy dissipating components for absorbing the impact kinetic energy during vehicular collisions. The present research work aimed to explore the Progressive collapse behaviour of aluminium-composite bi-tubular energy absorbers subjected to axial loading using quasi-static compression. Final deformed shapes and crush force–deformation curves of all the recommended typical tube sections are calculated and discussed elaborately. The conclusions obtained exposed that better crashworthiness features of Aluminium-composite tubes with a pentagonal section, were due to the favorable deformation styles occurring during the crushing process. Furthermore, the suggested Aluminium-composite bi-tubular cylindrical structures might be applied as energy dissipating components in modern vehicles.
