Something, especially a statement or action, that displays such a bold confidence (dictionary.com, emphasis added by authors) It feels almost prescient that the theme of the final issue of Voices from the Middle under our editorial team would be one inviting teachers to write what was urgent, brave, and worthy of a mic drop. When we took up the editorship of Voices, we set out to do very particular things that were deeply rooted in our own identities as middle level English teachers and in our decades of participation in and service to the middle level section of NCTE. The definition shared above captured the spirit we were hoping to lean into, particularly when it comes to the ways that each piece in the issue sounds a bold confidence whether it is taking up ideas about decolonizing our classroom libraries or thinking in more equitable and visionary ways about how digital tools play a role in our next teaching.
