Zusammenfassung: | The prospects of developing new chemotherapy drug delivery systems based on different forms of nanoselenium are presented. We summarize findings of preclinical trials concerning the use of nanoselenium as a platform for targeted drug delivery of the key classes of anticancer medicines: alkylating agents, antimetabolites, anticancer antibiotics, plant-derived anticancer agents, and drugs for targeted therapies. Development of new medicines for cancer therapy based on platforms using nanoselenium has become one key topic in the area of advanced drug delivery systems. Considering encouraging results of preclinical trials testing selenium nanoparticles as the basis for delivery systems for anticancer agents, selenium nanoparticles will play an important role in cancer treatment in the near future, especially in the age of personalized medicine, when patients will receive treatment based on individual approaches. |
