Effect of brazing parameters on microstructure and mechanical properties of Ti5Si3/Ti3Al composite joints brazed with Ti–Zr–Cu–Ni filler alloy

In this study, Ti 5 Si 3 /Ti 3 Al composite was successfully vacuum-brazed with Ti-33Zr-16Cu-13Ni (wt.%) filler alloy. The typical interfacial microstructure of the joints presented a symmetrical characteristic, which mainly consisted of Ti 3 Al, Ti 2 Ni, and α-Ti phases. The effects of brazing temp...

Zusammenfassung:In this study, Ti 5 Si 3 /Ti 3 Al composite was successfully vacuum-brazed with Ti-33Zr-16Cu-13Ni (wt.%) filler alloy. The typical interfacial microstructure of the joints presented a symmetrical characteristic, which mainly consisted of Ti 3 Al, Ti 2 Ni, and α-Ti phases. The effects of brazing temperature and holding time on the interfacial microstructure and mechanical properties of the joints were investigated in details. The optimized average shear strength of 224 MPa was obtained when brazing at 900 °C for 5 min. The high temperature shear strength of the joints reached 377 and 405 MPa at 600 and 650 °C, respectively. In addition, the microstructure evolution mechanism of the joints was put forward based on the experimental analysis.
