Interleukin-1β, tumor necrosis factor-α, and oxidative stress biomarkers in cows with acute Brucella abortus infection

Zusammenfassung: | The aim of this study was to investigate the possible alterations in some cytokines and oxidative stress biomarkers in cows with acute
Brucella abortus
(
B. abortus
) infection. The study has been carried out on twenty-two cows’ sera. All serum samples were examined for brucellosis by indirect enzyme-linked immunosorbant assay (i-ELISA). Cows that were seronegative for
B. abortus
infection were used as a control group; meanwhile, cows that were diagnosed positive for
B. abortus
infection were used as an infected group. Cytokine profile and oxidative state markers showed significant increases in interleukin-1β (IL-1β), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), malondialdehyde (MDA), and nitric oxide (NO) levels in
B. abortus
-infected cows in comparison with the control group. On the other hand, significant decreases in interleukin-10 (IL-10) and total antioxidant capacity (TAC) levels were reported in
B. abortus
-infected cows when compared with controls. |
