We have demonstrated the feasibility of lanthanum hexaboride powder synthesis from a chloride–oxide melt via electrochemical codeposition of its components on an inert cathode. The synthesis temperature, electrolyte composition, and current density have been optimized. The phase composition of the synthesized powder has been determined by X-ray diffraction. Using scanning electron microscopy, the powder has been shown to have cubic morphology and its particle size has been determined. The particle size distribution of the powder has been determined by particle size analysis. |
