Zusammenfassung: | During the revolutionary period, the Sierra Juárez of Oaxaca saw an armed uprising between May and September 1912. In the 1980s, Oaxacan historiography labeled this event as the “Ixtepejan Revolt”. In recent years, studies of the judicial archives have revealed the testimonies and political plans of the revolt’s leaders. These findings have allowed us to analyze their political discourse and demands, as well as the way in which these were adapted to the political context. This has made it possible to discern the internal differences among the movement’s participants, as well as their particular interests, which in turn has brought into question the label given to it over three decades ago. Perhaps, behind the mask of this revolt, there hides a less revolutionary, more complex phenomenon. |
