Zusammenfassung: | SiO2-CaO-Na2O based bio-ceramics were prepared through sol-gel procedure using eggshells and rice husk ash (RHA) as sources of calcium oxide and silica, respectively. Thermogravimetric and differential thermal analysis (TG-DTA) was evaluated to study the thermal decomposition behavior of gel. In vitro bioactivity was examined by immersing in simulated body fluid (SBF). Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and Scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive spectroscopy (SEM-EDS) were used to record the deposition of hydroxyapatite on the ceramics surface. The results showed good bioactivity of ceramics with the formation of carbonated hydroxyapatite within three days of immersion in SBF solution. Therefore, the prepared SiO2-CaO-Na2O based ceramics could be a low cost material for biomedical applications. |
