Zusammenfassung:•Hot-hardening phenomenon for a new hot-work steel in the range of 450–750 °C is experimentally shown.•Plastic deformation at 450 °C provides significant hardening of steel.•Plastic deformation at 750 °C further increases the strength of steel. The behavior during hot deformation of a new Si-Cr-Ni-Mn-V-Ti-Nb die steel in the temperature range of 450–750 °C was studied. The true stress-strain curves for the steel during hot compressive deformation were plotted. It has been experimentally shown that the steel is prone to hot hardening.
