Zusammenfassung:World Health Organization reported that at a global level around 300 million people suffer from mental or behavioural disorder, which is equivalent to 4.4% of the total world's population and only a few receive the most basic treatment (WHO, 2017). Even though Perceaamericana was traditionally used, no methodical phytochemical and pharmacological work has been worked on this plant, which has a great potential.1 With an objective to discover and verify the traditional use as an anxiolytic Perseaamericana was subjected to preliminary anti-anxiety screening studies and selective serotonin-reuptake inhibitors (Kunovac and Stahl, 1995) are the important class of drugs which are used in treating anxiety disorders. Attributing on this information, different doses of the extract were selected for the study-400mg/kg, 200mg/kg and 100mg/kg as high dose, medium dose and low dose respectively Elevated Plus Maze Method: It was observed from the studies that, the ethanolic and aqueous extracts of Perseaamericana on oral administration significantly increased the following parameters, the percentage number of open arm entries and percentage time spent in open arms. An anxiolytic agent acts via the GABA -A (yaminobutyric acid type A) receptor complex, proving the use of diazepam as a positive control in the study and the number of entries into open arms is increased as well as time spent in open arms of EPM also increased proving the use of diazepam as a positive control in the study.5In the present study, the oral administration of ethanolic and aqueous extract prepared from the bark of Perseaamericana when administered at doses 100, 200 and 400mg/kg ,it was observed that the ethanolic extract of Perseaamericana a dose of 200 and 400mg/kg induced an anxiolytic like effect in mice, which was more significant than aqueous extract of Perseaamericana as it increased the number of entries and the time spent on open arms and decreased the time spent in closed arms in the EPM test [4].
