Zusammenfassung:The occasion gave the young man, who had not yet received his university degree, the opportunity both to show off his classical training-his speech followed the structure of a Ciceronian oration and drew from both Greek and Latin sources-and to secure his position as the promising representative of his family in the political and cultural life of Spoleto. Campello was based in Spoleto, whose cultural life in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries remains understudied outside the immediate area, but he exemplifies the connections that were in place between the largest cities and the other communities within their cultural orbit. Lokaj's twenty years of experience working in the Spoleto archive bears fruit in the introduction, which strikes a nice balance, offering all the information necessary to appreciate the texts without indulging in unnecessary verbiage.
