Universal DNA primers for amplification complete mitochondrial genome for sturgeons

The amplification and direct sequencing of mitochondrial genes with universal primers can provide valuable information for molecular studies. In this study we designed 16 universal primer pairs to amplify the complete mitochondrial genome of 7 species of sturgeon (Order: Acipenseriformes). Our results show that all primers pairs amplified for each species. We hope that the development of these universal DNA primers will be useful in molecular studies investigating phylogenetic relationships, evolution, phylogeography, conservation and population genetics of the sturgeon group.
