Zusammenfassung:Sea level variability encompasses a wide range of perturbations that span from seconds to millennia. The most relevant for contemporary coastal dynamics are those associated with wind waves, tides and storm surges, ranging temporally from seconds up to a few days, although seiches and tsunamis may be also important. Sea level rise, at its actual trend of 3 mm/yr, cannot be put aside absolutely, however, its effects are synergic with the formers in longer time span and its variability vanishes in short time scales. Here, Schettini et al. discuss the tides and sea level variability decomposition in the Port of Santos Waterway.
