A hoard of mostly Islamic dirhams from the village of Khodynino in Riazanski province

In the spring of 2018 a hoard of 42 dirhams was found 1.5 kilometres north-east of the village of Khodynino on the Vozha river bank (in Riazanski province), which is about 120 miles south-east of Moscow Russia. The coins can be dated between 596 and 805 AD. They were scattered over an area of two square metres at a depth of 20 to 30 centimetres. The coins were photographed before the hoard was dispersed. In addition to the Islamic coins there were three earlier Sasanian drachms. The time span of the Khodynino hoard (209 years) is also characteristic of some hoards of Islamic coins (sometimes including Sasanian drachms) found in Russia. This has been established as 211, 218, 298 and even 368 years.
