RBOH expression and ROS metabolism in Citrullus colocynthis under cadmium stress
NADPH oxidase (NOX) is a critical enzyme expressing by RBOH gene. NOX activity maintains a healthy level of reactive oxygen species (ROS) which are the natural by-product of oxygen metabolism. Zusammenfassung: | NADPH oxidase (NOX) is a critical enzyme expressing by RBOH gene. NOX activity maintains a healthy level of reactive oxygen species (ROS) which are the natural by-product of oxygen metabolism. We aim to investigate the RBOH expression and the ROS metabolism in
Citrullus colocynthis
(L.) Schrad. plant under cadmium (Cd) stress. Changes in diverse physiological and molecular characteristics were monitored following different treatments of CdCl
2
(0, 100, 200 and 300 μM). Results showed that shoot and root dry weight and length, plus relative water content, reduced significantly in comparison with control after Cd treatment. On the other hand, Cd exposure caused over-accumulation of H

and proline, whereas the Cd treatments led to inductions in the activities of catalase and superoxide dismutase enzyme. In addition, Cd exposure enhanced lipid peroxidation level, indicating oxidative damage to the membrane. Real-time PCR assay revealed that Cd up-regulated the expression of RBOH. |
