Zusammenfassung: | The zig-zag (or kinked) cracks are common in brittle materials. A procedure of estimating the stress intensity factors, as well as the compliance contributions of such cracks is suggested. We also develop a simple, and relatively accurate, approximation for the compliance contributions of cracks with multiple links that “shortcuts” the mentioned procedure. In addition, we suggest how to apply results for zig-zag geometries to estimating elastic compliances of certain curvilinear cracks. |
