Local Pedagogies and Race: Interrogating White Safety in the Rural College Classroom

The local pedagogy for teaching race and critical thinking at a private liberal arts college having a dominant population of fair skinned Americans is presented. This local pedagogy asks the teachers and students to confront their own positions and realize that the results that emerge from the locals themselves are always shifting, which in turn challenges the teachers and students to think and reflect carefully on their positions and consequences of their assumptions.
