EDITORIAL BY AMS PRESIDENT AVERY ON UNPAID PAGE CHARGES

For nonprofit organizations such as the American Meteorological Society (AMS), to recoup the cost associated with publishing high-quality scientific and technical journals, they depend upon subscriptions and page charges. Unfortunately, ever-increasing numbers of scientists are relying upon AMS to publish their work, while contributing only partially, or not at all, to covering the production and printing expenses. Here, Avery comments on the shortfall faced by the AMS brought by unpaid page charges.
