Thrasymachus the Diplomat

White shows how the character of Thrasymachus in Plato's "Republic" was a consistent opponent of outside aggression and a champion of local autonomy. Despite Plato's caricature of him, Thrasymachus was a gifted speaker and capable of shrewd diplomacy in his public oratory.
