Tribological behavior of zirconia based ceramics in dry sliding on steel

In the present work, it was shown that for zirconia-based ceramics with different toughening mechanisms, there is a universal dependence of wear rate on speed with a maximum at average sliding speeds (≈ 2 m/s -5 m/s), in which the influence of two factors can be traced - an increase in the level of...

Zusammenfassung:In the present work, it was shown that for zirconia-based ceramics with different toughening mechanisms, there is a universal dependence of wear rate on speed with a maximum at average sliding speeds (≈ 2 m/s -5 m/s), in which the influence of two factors can be traced - an increase in the level of thermomechanical stresses with increasing temperature in the tribocontact zone and the process of formation of a continuous transfer layer, which leads to a decrease in the level of contact stresses.
