Zusammenfassung:In recent years popular music has consolidated its presence in academia via its inclusion in both the curricula of various degrees in higher education institutions and in research forums of several disciplines. In this paper we review the international evolution of a process that has been running for nearly fifty years. We also address some of the debates and challenges inherent to the normalization of popular music in music education.
