Control of electric, optical, thermal properties of C60 films by electron-beam irradiation

Zusammenfassung:We have examined the electric, optical, and thermal properties of C60 films before and after electron-beam (EB: an incident energy of 3 keV) irradiation by inducing a variety of cross-linked structures between adjacent C60 molecules via the general Stone-Wales transformation, and demonstrated that those properties can be controlled by EB-irradiation time: the resistivity ρ is continuously changed by 10−6 times and optical absorbance of C60 film increases in a range of 350–850 nm when compared to that of pristine C60 film, and the heat-resistance becomes higher that is comparable to that of polyimide film commercially available as the highest heat-resistance organic material.
