Heart failure in 2001: a prophesy revisited

Predictions made in 1991 regarding the understanding and treatment of heart failure in 2001 are reviewed in light of recent developments in basic and clinical science in an effort to uncover clues regarding new strategies that may emerge over the next 10 years.
