Use of Thermal Infrared Sensing to Survey White-Tailed Deer Populations

A commercially available thermal infrared system was used to conduct aerial surveys of pens containing white-tailed deer of known sex and age classes. It was used to determine whether investigators could visually identify deer, discriminate fawns from adults and discern growing antlers and use this characteristic to distinguish between sex classes using thermal infrared sensing.
