Zusammenfassung:	The simultaneously extracted metal-acid volatile sulfide (SEM-AVS) method is widely used to estimate whether or not metlas in sediments are toxic. Although considerable attention has been given to metal-sulfide interactions and related toxicological research, the complexities of the sedimentary sulfide system and how they may influence the SEM-AVS relationship have recieved scant consideration.
