Small town economic development: principles of organization

The decline in local ownership of businesses, as well as other changes in the economic environment, have forced small towns to look beyond the business sector for community leaders. The changing pattern of community leadership requires local economic development groups to restructure their economic development organizations to involve diverse elements in the community. This article suggests seven principles of organization that small towns should follow in restructuring their economic development organizations.
