Zusammenfassung:To optimize profile of a Pitot type pump, which is composed mainly of a rotating casing with an impeller passage and adischarge tube in the shape of Pitot tube, this paper discusses experimentally and numerically relation between pump performance and the discharge tube in the rotating casing. The discharge tube affects the pump head against the discharge andbrings velocity defect, namely wake flow, with secondary flow in the rotatoing casing. Hydraulic losses in the tube decreases the pump head, and the velocity defect not only decreases the pump head but also increases the shaft power. Such performances and flow conditions can be predicted numerically by a commercial CFD code, and the discharge tube was optimized by the numerical simulation to improve the pump efficiency.
