Osmotic stimulation of vasopressin mRNA content in the supraoptic nucleus requires synaptic activation

A study evaluated the role of synaptic input to the vasopressin neurons in hypertonicity-induced increase in vasopressin mRNA content. The results show that either synaptic input or increased vasopressin is required for hypertonicity to increase vasopressin mRNA.
