Synthesis of New Polytypic Modifications of Fe7C3 at 5.5 GPa

Zusammenfassung:The results of experimental synthesis of carbide Fe 7 C 3 at 5.5 GPa are presented. It is found that carbide Fe 3 C and several polytypes of carbide Fe 7 C 3 are formed along with diamond during cooling of the system. It is considered that the Fe 7 C 3 phase is a component of the Earth’s inner core. Our results indicate that polytypic carbide modifications could have been formed under natural conditions at relatively low pressures during differentiation of the Earth.
