Zusammenfassung:QUESTIONNAIRE DATA WERE COLLECTED FROM 411 UNIVERSITY EMPLOYEES AT THREE JOB LEVELS TO TEST TWO HYPOTHESES RELATIVE TO THE DIFFERENCE IN THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN JOB AND LIFE SATISFACTION FOR MALE AND FEMALES. THE FEMALE RESPONDENTS REPORTED SIGNIFICANT RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN THEIR ATTITUDES ABOUT THEIR JOBS AND THEIR LIFE. THIS IS A SIGNIFICANT CHANGE FROM AN EARLIER SURVEY CONDUCTED BY BRAYFIELD AND WELLS. THERE WERE SIGNIFICANT CHANGES IN ATTITUDE AT ALL JOB LEVELS BETWEEN THE TWO SURVEYS. EXPLANATIONS FOR THESE CHANGES INVOLVED ATTITUDINAL CHANGES IN FEMALES AS A RESULT OF THE WOMEN'S MOVEMENT, DIFFERENCES IN ORGANIZATIONAL ENVIRONMENTS ACROSS SAMPLES, DIFFERENCES IN TYPES OF EMPLOYEES, AND CHANGES IN MEAN LIFE AND JOB SATISFACTION. A SOMEWHAT DISQUIETING FINDING IS THE DOWNWARD TREND IN THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN JOB AND LIFE SATISFACTION AS JOB LEVEL INCREASES. WHETHER THIS IS UNHEALTHY OR NOT SHOULD REMAIN OPEN TO EMPIRICAL INVESTIGATION. TABLES. REFERENCES.
