Zusammenfassung:To determine the factors that facilitate left ventricular (LV) filling in newborns, filling characteristics were compared in chronically instrumented awake newborn and older lambs. Newborn lambs had indexed mean LV filling rates that were more than twofold higher, and a much greater percentage of filling occurred in the first 35 ms after mitral valve opening.
