Immunizations for Native American Children

The recommendations of the American Academy of Pediatrics for preventing Hemophilus influenzae infection, hepatitis B, hepatitis A and Streptococcus pneumoniae infection in Native American children are presented. The PRP-OMP vaccine against Hemophilus influenzae is effective and there are effective vaccines for hepatitis B and A. Some children may require booster shots of hepatitis A vaccine if they live in areas where the virus is endemic. Some of the vaccines can be combined into a single shot.
