Zusammenfassung:The post-war revival of sholem Aleichem in english, particularly in musical english with the appearance of Fiddler on the Roof on Broadway in 1964, is a focal point for commentary on all that memory and invention have done with the Jewish past since the war.5 I don't doubt that recent reports from europe in the summer of 1946 account in part for the extraordinary reception of The Old Country at the time, but I do not believe my parents set out to write a personal memory book or to construct a holocaust memorial through their translation.
