Two Studies in Old Spanish Homonymics
Little systematic work has been done regarding the effects of homonymy in the history of Spanish, Portuguese, and Italian. Dworkin examines the fate of three verbs with the same root and the demise of the verb acender, meaning to ignite, in light of Old Spanish's low tolerance for homonymy.
