Zusammenfassung:Mangrove has high primary productivity, which supports land or sea ecosystems, especially in a protected area. Therefore, mangrove management is needed to maintain mangrove quality and productivity. The objective of the research is to evaluate the mangrove ecosystem, thus from the evaluation, we may build the strategy for environmental protection. The Evaluation Mangrove ecosystem on Leuweung Sancang Forest in Garut Regency West Java based on Species Importance Value and Diversity Index according to Minister of Environment Regulation Number 201/2004. Based on the results, we found two types of mangrove vegetation. True mangrove vegetations were Avicennia sp and Rhizophora sp. and associated mangroves include Thespesia sp, Mangifera sp. and Pandanus sp. Based on Minister of Environment Regulation Number 201/2004, the true species of mangroves that are Avicennia sp. and Rhizophora sp. are classified as destructing (rare). According to the Species Importance Index, we found that the highest was Rhizophora sp. and the least was Pandanus sp. Total Diversity Index was 0.33, which mean that the mangrove community is unstable. Strategy for environmental protection including building regulation, community development, mangrove rehabilitation and management.
