Scat singing: A timbral and phonemic analysis

Bauer presents an analytic approach to scat singing focusing on timber, an important element that receives little attention in the jazz literature. The work of scat singers give us an important avenue for exploring the ways in which timbre can be used to generate musical growth, both by creating memorable shapes and by generating compelling movement.
