Molecular electric moments from x-ray diffraction data

Electric multipole moments of molecules are compact summaries of molecular charge distribution and provide insight into the nuclear and electronic structure of molecules. The theory that measurements of dipole, quadrupole and higher moments of molecules from X-ray diffraction data can be competitive with other experimental techniques is discussed.
