Zusammenfassung:[...]Pronay, Taylor and most of their fellow collaborators fail to agree on a clear definition of propaganda-usually equating the term uncertainly with political communication. Commonly, "propaganda" is used as a pejorative appellation for the communication efforts of others, while the euphemism "information" is retained for one's own activities. [...]the value of Kenneth Short's insightful commentary is on the problems "propaganda" has caused both scholars and lexicologists attempting to grapple with its ambiguity. There are some things to criticize in the two books, among them: occasional typographical errors, the failure except in one instance to publish organizational charts clearly defining the chain of command and linkages in various propaganda agencies, the lack of photographs, no comprehensive frontispiece listing of figures and tables, inconsistent inclusion of filmographies (which would have been useful for most chapters instead of only a few), the decision not to append glossaries of terms and biographical details on key personalities mentioned in the text, and the elimination of comprehensive reference bibliographies (instead each chapter has endnotes).
