Male attendance and copulatory behaviour in western bluebirds: Evidence of mate guarding

The western bluebird is socially monogamous. During breeding times the following of the female by the male corresponded with peak receptivity of females to copulation. Following the female was more frequent when nearest neighbor distances were reduced.
