Zusammenfassung:During the First World War the Indian Army sent five expeditionary forces abroad, A to Europe, B and C to East Africa, D to Iraq, and E to Egypt. This article investigates force A, also known as the Indian Corps, which in September 1914 joined the BEF in France. Drawing on both neglected and previously unpublished evidence, it challenges long-established beliefs about the Indian troops who fought on the Western Front and offers a new interpretation of their role.
