We performed a phase 1 study of this drug in patients with advanced squamous-cell carcinoma of the uterine cervix.

One of the patients in the study was a 49-year-old woman who had presented in 1992 with stage IIIA, poorly differentiated squamous-cell carcinoma of the cervix. She was treated with a combination of external and intracavitary radiation therapy. The side effects of this treatment included recurrent episodes of small-bowel obstruction, requiring surgical exploration and intestinal resection.
