CT scans, ultrasonographic studies, or operative exploration in these cases often reveals a mass or enlargement in the head ofthe pancreas, raising the possibility of pancreatic cancer. In this case, the histologic findings were compatible with the presence of chronic pancreatitis,28-31 although the pancreatic head was enlarged.
