Zusammenfassung:A new and endangered species, endemic to dry forests of the Caatinga Domain in Northeast Brazil is described and illustrated. Ipomoea vespertilia has been misidentified in herbaria as I. marcellia , to which it appears to be closely related. However, it differs consistently from that species in multiple morphological characters and the timing of anthesis.
