Zusammenfassung:In getting 17.5% of the votes in the 9 September legislative elections, the Sweden Democrats (SD) posted the best electoral performance ever recorded by a far right party in a nationwide election. "Working class Sweden", which has watched helplessly as the welfare state disintegrates and fears the impact of the arrival in the country of several hundreds of thousands of migrants since 2014, has found its voice in the SD party. Led by the young (39) and charismatic Jimmie Åkesson, the SD broke with its neo-Nazi roots and is now positioned as a responsible and respectable party. Even though they will not be invited to join the government - the other parties have stated they will not be included in any coalition - the SD will throw their significant weight into influencing the next legislature thanks to their 62 members of parliament (out of 349 total). Their success has also brought smiles to the faces of their allies on the continent like the Fidesz party headed by Viktor Orban and Marine Le Pen's Rassemblement National.
