Zusammenfassung:Forty years ago, the state of Israel was quite unlike today's nation and the Middle East looked completely different. In 1978, the year Politique Internationale was founded, the Labour Party had for three decades dominated politics in Israel. The country had a robust state-sector economy; it was isolated in the region and marginalized on the international scene. Today, this somewhat rigid portrait has been completely shattered. Although from a political standpoint the rise of very vocal populism rooted in national identity worries those on the most progressive margins of Israeli society, Israel has become a dynamic economy and is prospering as it embraces modernity. It is a leader in high-tech, a society that is richer because of its differences and open to the world. Still, the country continues to live in a completely unstable environment. The primary threat is no longer really the conflict with the Palestinians - curiously no longer viewed as a priority - but the expansionist designs of Iran and the swelling of the jihadist movement.
